Sage Kimzey Likely to Miss Six Weeks, NFR May Be in Jeopardy

Sage Kimzey will miss six weeks after breaking his clavicle in Cheyenne, which required surgery on Wednesday.

The seven-time PRCA Bull Riding World Champion told ProRodeo.com that he likely would be out about six weeks, which would have him returning in the middle of September. He will likely be healthy enough to compete in the Thomas & Mack Center, but the PRCA bylaws may not be kind to him.

Kimzey is currently No. 4 in the PRCA World Standings and leads the 15th ranked cowboy by $65,000, however, Kimzey has been to just 25 rodeos and needs to make 40 for his PRCA-leading $62,782 in Xtreme Bulls money to count.

Kimzey would have to go to compete in at least 15 rodeos in about two weeks in September to ensure his ninth NFR qualification.

“We will just have to see what the rest of the season looks like,” Kimzey he told ProRodeo.com. “I’ll actually probably not be able to make the NFR due to my rodeo count. I have to go to 40 rodeos for my Xtreme Bulls money to count. I’m at 25 right now.”
